“Mystical scholars gathered on the harsh and mysterious world of Tython millennia ago to begin the first studies of the Force, but controversy among the scholars’ ranks created a cataclysm which nearly destroyed the planet. A small group of survivors fled to another star system, put their dark past behind them, and founded the Jedi Order.

Thousands of years passed, and the true legacy of Tython was forgotten.

Rediscovering the planet early in the Great War, the modern Jedi began exploring the mysteries of Tython’s history, and learning much about the earliest Force users.

When the
Empire sacked Coruscant and destroyed their long-standing Temple, the Jedi Council chose to rebuild the Temple on Tython and train a new generation of Jedi to battle the Sith menace. They soon discovered, however, that Tython’s mystical power carried its own dark legacy, a pervasive taint of unknown origins…”

Ominous, right?

But that’s the nature of the first planet announced for The Old Republic, Tython! I’m assuming it’ll be the starting planet for all you Jedi out there, and the source of all hatred for you fanboy Sith. I joke, I joke.

But on a more serious note, Tython looks pretty cool. There’s a developer’s discussion on it if you’re fascinated, even.

Now, from here on is dangerous territory. You’re venturing into the depths of my speculation. Read on, if you dare. The way I see it, Tython will have a bunch of starter missions for the Jedi, reflecting what I expect Korriban will be like for the Sith. Slowly it’ll build up to a couple of missions which lead you to getting off the surface and into space, or maybe other planets.

And then, I believe that there will be higher level quests available. Some serious stuff going down. “Pervasive taint of unknown origins”? Sounds pretty juicy to me. But it doesn’t sound like something any old Padawan could handle. At least, not if the game’s any good.

Then again, I could be completely and utterly wrong. But that’s what speculation is all about, isn’t it?

I think I know who’s going to win this one. Unless that lizard suddenly develops a bad attitude.
